Fluffy

“Excuse me?” said Ms. Roth.  On her face was a look that was something between shock and anger.

“You heard me!” answered Mrs. Gettings.  “Keep that scruffy rodent out of my yard!”

Ms. Roth rolled her eyes.  “Scruffy rodent?  You think Fluffy is a ‘scruffy rodent’?  She’s a sweet pet.  You probably think anything with a tail and whiskers is a rodent.”

“I think you’re a rodent!” screamed Mrs. Gettings.   Her face was as red as a tomato.

Just then Fluffy came from out of the house.  He walked up to Mrs. Gettings and started rubbing against her leg.  She was about to give him a kick when she heard him purring.  Fluffy looked up at Mrs. Gettings with the cutest eyes in the world.

“On second thought,” Mrs. Gettings said, “Maybe Fluffy isn’t so bad.”  She bent down to pet his head.  “He can come into my yard every now and then if he wants.”
